VR as a technology has taken off in leaps and bounds in the past 18 months. Everything from the Oculus to the humble Google Cardboard, is now starting to provide gamers immersive experiences like never before. One area that VR is going to have a huge impact is in, in 2017 and beyond is online gaming like adventure & action games, racing & strategy games, role playing games, arcade games, board & casino games, and more.

Just image being transported to an 80’s style gaming arcade in a mall, with all the sights and sounds (sorry, smells not included), or re-creating the big stakes win in a Vegas like environment after you’ve hit the jackpot in a casino game like live blackjack, is something that gamers will want to immerse themselves in.

Online gaming comes in many different forms. Whether it’s a casual arcade game, or one that bends your mind like scrabble or Sudoku, or a game of tact and skill like Chess, poker, solitaire; VR has the potential to take it to the next level. While online games can get pretty competitive, the key factor here will be the ability for online game developers to create immersive environments.

Personally speaking – I’d love to see something like Guitar Hero in VR – the ability to re-create performances at some of the biggest arenas in the world, to give you that Rockstar experience! You can finally boast about belting “born in the USA” at Wembley! (Oh, the irony!)

Either way 2017 has a great line up of VR games coming in 2016. So if you’re on the fence to pick up some great VR games for your Oculus Rift or HTC Hive or PlayStation VR – then you cannot miss these games:

  • Essence. Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and OSVR. …
  • Fallout 4. HTC Vive. …
  • Star Trek: Bridge Crew. Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. …
  • ARK Park. Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. …
  • Panoptic. HTC Vive. …
  • SingSpace. Samsung Gear VR. …
  • Guardian Arena. HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and OSVR. …
  • Syren. HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR.

In conclusion, whether you look at it from an online multiplayer FPS, RTS game, VR is surely changing the landscape of the way we’re going to game in 2017. If you’re still undecided about VR, check out the short video of some truly immersive gaming experiences.
