Sony launches PS4 in Japan

The PlayStation 4 is now available in Japan, and Sony released a video today to mark the Feb. 22 launch of the console in its home country.

Sony originally announced the Feb. 22 date — the launch comes more than three months after the PS4’s North American release date on Nov. 15 — in September, with the console going for 39,980 yen by itself and 43,980 in a bundle with the PlayStation Camera. Sony Japan Studio’s Knack comes initial allocations of the system.

The PS4 is launching with 27 games in Japan. Titles specific to the region include Yakuza Ishin, Nikoli no Puzzle 4: Sudoku, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Creation, Dream C Club: Host Girls on Stage, Tottemo E Mahjong Plus, Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends and Onigiri. Launching worldwide today is the beta for the PS4 version of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. The beta for Capcom’s Deep Down was supposed to be available near the PS4’s Japanese launch, but the publisher delayed it last month.
