The 5 Most Anticipated Role Playing Games of 2014

2014 has a ton of great Role Playing Games (RPGs) lined up; and boy did we have a tough time picking the top 5. We also go a LOT of flack for leaving out some key RPGs in our Most Anticipated Games of 2014. Well, truth be said, we certainly should  not have left it out, BUT this is now an effort to remedy some of that. We did take a look at a whole bunch of RPGs coming out this year, and we’ve shortlisted the top 5! Here you like the list and as always, your feedback is most welcome…let’s get started!

#5.Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV (Originally called Final Fantasy Versus), was supposed to be a PS4 exclusive to start with, however it’s currently touted release for the PS4 and the Xbox One.  It’s the story of a young king sworn to defend the last crystal in the world from the “hectic order” outside of his kingdom. It’s a fight between ancient and modern technology, and the struggle of one king to protect the old ways. The 15th installment of the game is sure to bring a new perspective, i.e. The game’s focus is to examine the characters’ humanity and distinguish it from the fantasy setting in other titles in the series. Nomura is “trying to propose new vision of how a Final Fantasy game can be. The game’s going to be more human than the science-fiction caricature… and will focus around current world events – in that sense it’s darker.”

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One

Release date: TBA 2014

#4. Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II returns in 2014 with a new hero, a new storyline, and an unfamiliar world for players to survive in while delivering its signature brand of unrelenting punishment that players hunger for. If you’ve played Dark Souls I, and enjoyed the experience, you will not want to miss the sequel. Epic battles with gruesome enemies and blood-thirsty bosses await adventurers as they traverse through a devastated world filled with death and despair; only those who are strong willed or cunning can survive this journey to achieve great glory. Players seeking to share their experience will discover a revamped server-based multiplayer mode that puts a distinct Dark Souls II twist on the concept of playing with others.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

#3. Dragon Age: Inquisition

The Dragon Age series has gotten so much stronger since Dragon Age: Origins in 2010. This is the 3rd installment of the franchise, and it picks up from Dragon Age 2 in terms of the action and overall tone. The game utilizes DICE’s Frostbite 2 technology and promises a massive world to explore, deep customization and great combat. As in both previous installments, the player character can be one of three classes; warrior, rogue or mage. The player will have the ability to choose one of 4 playable races – human, dwarf, elf or qunari – and of either gender. Body sliders will not be available to customize the player character’s physique; rather, the engine will support differing body shapes for each race.

Platforms: PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC

Release Date: TBA 2014

#2. South Park: Stick of Truth

This is one game I personally cannot wait to play! Based on the hit TV series South Park, the game features elements from the entire gaming landscape of the past decade. What’s the story about…simple: Join Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman and aid them in a hysterical adventure to save South Park and follow through on the epic quest to become … cool. Arm yourself with weapons of legend to defeat crabpeople, underpants gnomes, hippies and other forces of evil. Discover the lost Stick of Truth and earn your place at the side of Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny as their new friend. Succeed, and you shall be South Park’s savior, cementing your social status in South Park Elementary. Fail, and you will forever be known … as a loser.

Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, PC

Release date: March 4th 2014

#1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 only seems like what is going to be the bigger RPG this year. Everything from graphics, gameplay, sound – all look and sound amazing. IF you haven’t already played the first 2 Witcher games, go do so already!! You’ll want to ensure you’re playing the previous parts because The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt concludes the story of Geralt of Rivia, the series’ protagonist. Without that, you’d just be wondering why a lot of the events are even taking place in the game.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Release Date: Q2 2014
