Insane! This is the end! But how can they do it? Grrrrrr…. RAGE… then almost turning into the Hulk!
My initial reaction to the news that Ben Affleck playing Batman in the next Man of Steel movie.
Yes. Yes. We are not all movie makers but we are the fans. We adore the characters so much that we cannot have anyone who may appear to be even slightly flawed to play that character. Haven’t we learned anything from Daredevil? Guess this one is closer to the heart, since its Batman. But then the more I think of it, the more I begin to accept him as the caped crusader. Let’s first begin with all the others that have donned the cowl:
Michael Keaton (Batman & Batman Returns) – He was the first. Great acting, no one to compare against. We loved the car. For “its time”, super!
Val Kilmer (Batman Forever): The second Batman. Or as I would like to point out, the second Bruce Wayne. The character that most people tend to overlook. The man under the cowl can be mostly be anyone (as we have seen in Batman & Robin with George Clooney), the actor that plays Bruce Wayne has to have charm. This is where I think, Val Kilmer did a super role. He (to me) has been the best Batman/Bruce Wayne.
George Clooney: no comment (that’s two words too many)
Christian Bale: I think he comes after Kilmer & Keaton in my list. He just doesn’t have the charm to be Bruce Wayne.
The success of the Batman trilogy goes to no one, apart from the Nolan brothers. The vision, the script & the execution: they made it all come together. Often everyone gives only Heath Ledger the credit. Why doesn’t anyone think about the collaboration between the script & the direction? The emphasis on the colour of his suit, the witty remarks, the story line. When Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker, wasn’t the reaction the same from all the fans?
When Al Pacino was first cast as Michael Corleone in Godfather. No one believed that it would work. Now where is he today? I could go on, lets get back to Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Yes, we must consider him as Bruce Wayne more than Batman. Think about it. Was Christian Bale actually that? Or was the story that great? Affleck is a great actor, and has definitely come a long way since Daredevil.
Now, I’m actually keen to see what he can do in the Man of Steel sequel 🙂 🙂 🙂
